KOREA: SPARKLING A Spirit Abroad

My apartment was the white house on the left.

During the past couple of years, I've been traveling. I taught English in Korea, which was a totally memorable experience. I also hiked a lot, because Korea's little secret is that it is a beautiful country.

Jirisan National Park

The first major trip I ventured on was Jirisan National Park, from Daewonsa to Hwaeomsa, which is about 30 miles in total. It is gorgeous, but it rained the entire time (3 days) until the end of the very last day. They have cabins up in the mountain where you can reserve a bed. Quite an elegant system.

The mist made a mysterious backdrop.

The path was full of intriguing passageways.

Finally the sun came out, as I reached the other side.
Some friends and I hit up the mountains behind Busan, the second-biggest city in Korea. It definitely has a nicer vibe than Seoul, with an extremely crowded beach scene during the summer months. Nevertheless, despite its rather large population, it still has nice trails surrounding it. One of the best ones leads to a sublime little temple that is perched like an eagle's nest overlooking the encroaching the city. Fall was upon us, and the Japanese Red Maples were gorgeous in the sunlight.

In Seoul, there are about twenty-five coffee shops per block and some are themed. Here is the Hello Kitty Cafe and Gyeungbokgung Palace.

The changing of the guard.

Here are some other lovely parts of Korea.

The view of my town.

Haeinsa Temple, in Gayasan NP, near where I lived.
